Prayers for 2/3 Marines

on 27 June 2008

Please pray for the 2/3 Marines currently deployed to Karmah, Iraq. They lost three of their brothers and two interpreters in a suicide bombing yesterday. Iraqi community and tribal leaders who were working with U.S. forces to better the area were also killed.

When you can, offer a prayer or kind words. This battalion took the place of the 3/3 Marines we supported who were in Karmah in the fall and winter of last year and the early spring of this one. Article

Feh...

on 21 June 2008

I'm all about tools for social change...except when it comes to scare tactics targeted at audiences whos' sons and daughters are usually not in the demographic who serve our nation in the first place. That shield back chair in the corner there you won't find in a house in the 5th ward or off of Navigation Street.

These folks at Moveon count on nice sheep citizenry easily scared out of thinking for themselves. They are just as manipulative as they accuse their conservative counterparts of being.

I won't rant and rave...
I was out too late,
there's a brutal 1st Sgt workout to squeeze in before it gets ridiculously hot,

relatives to visit
and birthday parties to go to,
but I will give you a link to someone who laid it out there quite well Lt. Nixon.

Bottom line.
Think for yourself and find others that do, too.
Don't just belly up to the trough.
It may taste good, but it'll just make you fat--well... and stupid.

Don't be stupid.
Listen to this.

Bonk

on 19 June 2008

Wednesday I bonked out at the end of the workout.

It was combination of not eating well, being a little under the weather and dehydration...

all excuses

I still fell out

victory or defeat
finish or don't finish

defeat sucks.
I won't be blogging this kind of post again.
ever.

East End

on 18 June 2008

I like to steal away here to the east end of the island sometimes.

This place is the only place within a reasonable distance from my house which allows for sun on the water at morning and at evening.
At dawn you can see it rise above the Gulf and at twilight it sets on the Bay.
This bridge takes you to a small strip of beach where I took these pictures. The lights you see in some of the backgrounds come from the ferries taking drivers across the Bay to Bolivar Peninsula.
At this time of day it's generally vacant of tourists, actually the west end is more popular in general--so it's still and tranquil.
Only the sound of the waves, the wind and the gulls fill the air with a kind of Nature's silence.
Nearby is a trail you can run or tidepools you can sit by when the tide is right.
I love mountains, the forests-- the desert even, but a new sun raising up out of the water or an old one moving onto the next part of the world is the main reason I'd rather have my hearing taken than my sight.
